A trend I have started to notice more and more in the studio is for artists to be overly proud in how quickly they knock out their song or verse. “Check out this tune, it only took me 20 minutes to record!” they brag to their friends in the control room. Jargon Buster

One of the hardest things about making music is talking about it. In the studio we use a lot of jargon which is great when we have a shared language but completely unhelpful if we don’t all use the same words to communicate our ideas. I thought I’d throw up a little cheat sheet that you can check in on whenever you might not know how to get your point

When I’m recording new artists there are a few things that crop up around mic technique so here’s a just a really quick cheat-sheet for improving your microphone technique.
